Taman Bukit Idaman is situated in a quiet area surrounded by luscious greenery. Those who do not want to be surrounded by just concrete jungle may consider moving here as the environment is calm and not as polluted as many townships. However, Selayang is an area prone to crime due to its dense population. Some serious crimes were committed within Taman Bukit Idaman, for example, a nine year old girl, Presheena Varshiny was raped, sodomized and flung over the balcony of Casa Mila in 5 November, 2007. The security within Selayang has since then been improved and as of year 2009, there has been a significant improvements in a reduction of crimes rates by 28%. This has been due to the fact that police have been patrolling the area more often as compared to the last few years. Police have also commented that they could not get an accurate number on the crime rates as sometimes residents do not lodge reports on petty crimes such as break-ins and snatch thieves.
