PETALING JAYA: To encourage the young to embrace sustainability as their way of life, Sime Darby Property held its Young Sustainability Ambassador (YSA) Programme at Bandar Bukit Raja in Klang recently.
Themed “Fun with Nature”, the children known as Green Hearties participated in a host of activities with their parents and guardians, including the Water Purifying Exercise and several Nature Hunt games.
The activities with 120 participants were divided into two categories for children of different age groups, those between 7 and 12 years old and those between 13 and 17 years old.
In the Water Purifying programme, the children were taught to build a simple water filter system by using recycled materials, while Nature Hunt included several mini games to educate children on the endless usage of recycled materials.
The “Fun with Nature” activities were designed to develop creativity, enhance problem-solving skills as well as promote intellectual development and teamwork.
“We aim to expand the YSA programme across most of our township communities and to date, more than 580 children have registered with us,” said Sime Darby Property managing director Datuk Jauhari Hamidi in a statement.
The YSA Programme was launched in 2013 initially for the children of Sime Darby Property employees and was extended to the public in 2015.
“The aspiration for total nature and environmental conservation will only be realised if everyone plays an active role. The programme also provides an effective community engagement platform for us to serve our communities better,” added Jauhari.
The event at Bandar Bukit Raja was the sixth YSA programme after Nilai Impian, KL East, Bukit Jelutong, Denai Alam and The Glades.
