ELEVEN blocks of low-cost flats near Jalan Tenggiri in Seberang Jaya, Penang, have been given a fresh coat of paint.
Since they were built by Penang Development Corporation (PDC) in 1984, there has been no major upgrading work on the blocks which comprise 408 residential and 20 commercial units.
Under a RM580,249 project by the state government, Blocks D1 to D9, D20 and D21 will be painted in white, light grey and red.
Work started last month and is expected to complete in July.
“We hope the residents will cooperate and keep the place clean after the beautification work,” he said in his speech before the launch of the project on Saturday.
Housewife Siti Mariam Mahmud, 45, hoped the residents would not litter once the buildings had been repainted.
“In the past, we can see garbage strewn everywhere, in the gardens and also along the walkways.
“Hopefully, the management will place more dustbins for the residents to discard their rubbish properly,” she said.
Also present were Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, state exco Phee Boon Poh, PDC general manager Datuk Rosli Jaafar and Seberang Prai Municipal Council secretary Rozali Mohamud.
