PETALING JAYA: The Tropicana Gardens Mall and Office Tower have been recently certified as silver rated by the Green Building Index (GBI), joining other Tropicana Gardens developments to achieve a similar green building rating.
Chief executive officer Ong Chou Wen said Tropicana Gardens and the larger Tropicana Indah township share a grand vision to be sustainable, liveable and prosperous and achieving the certification has been a recognition of many years of effort by Tropicana.
“Tropicana Gardens recently won the FIABCI Malaysia Property Award 2023 under the category of the best mixed-use development in Malaysia by the FIABCI Malaysia Chapter. Coupled with this recent green certification, it is very gratifying to know that after many years of planning and developing, we received the recognition. We acknowledge the efforts of the Tropicana team for their diligence and commitment,” he said after receiving the GBI certificates from accreditation panel chairman Chan Seong Aun.
Achieving the GBI certification has entailed a development to incorporate standards including using passive design to minimise direct solar heat gain, maximising cross-ventilation, ensuring minimum environmental impact at the construction site including using best practices in waste and water management, incorporating extensive sun shades and shady structures, having stormwater management and natural filtration, preserving the natural topography and optimising traffic flows to reduce carbon footprint.
To date, Tropicana has built 17 green-rated developments including all of Tropicana Gardens’ developments - Arnica, Bayberry, Cyperus, Dianthus, the mall and the office tower.
