PETALING JAYA: The 23rd Tropicana Club Closed Championship 2017, a 3 day event which is the penultimate golf event of the year for Tropicana Golf & Country Resort (TGCR) arrived with great anticipation by all members filling all 120 spots.
This year is the first time in the club’s history to host the tournament with play starting from the all 3 courses starting from the West, East 1 and East 2. Many members practiced weeks on end to catch a glimpse of glory and be named club champion. They compete not just for the prizes, but to be immortalised in Tropicana Golf and Country Club’s history.
The event was opened by last year’s runner up Jimmy Chia kicking off the tournament by hitting the first tee shot. This year the course set another challenge for the player with greens speed up to 13 feet on the stimpmeter on the first day setting the speed the highest in the club’s history of the usual tournament greens speed of 12 feet.
This year Jimmy Chia grabbed victory for the Mens Champion with the score of 69, 80, 78, total 227 and the Ladies Champion Mychelle Tai with the score of 78, 85, 96, total 259 .The 2 winners were given a treat with a birds eye view of the entire course on a helicopter ride accompanied by TGCR Executive Director Herman Tan.
“This year TGCR have done it again with an amazing and challenging course and to top it off, a helicopter ride," said year's winner Jimmy Chia in a statement.
The day ended with the award giving ceremony along with light refreshments, live band performances and lucky draw prizes. Congratulations to the winners of this year’s tournament.
