A MUTIARA Damansara resident is concerned that plans to fell trees there and in Damansara Perdana for the Damansara-Shah Alam Highway (DASH) project will have a negative impact on the environment.
C.S. Chan said Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) earmarked trees and erected signboards stating how many would be chopped down and for what purpose.
“I believe the number of affected trees here is over 200, including 150 in Mutiara Damansara and over 50 in Damansara Perdana,” said Chan, who noticed the signage sometime ago.
He said the authorities should do more to protect the trees such as replanting them elsewhere.
“The environment should not have to suffer in the name of development,” said Chan.
It was reported in April that MBPJ would remove about 1,100 trees of varying sizes for the construction of DASH, which is an elevated expressway.
Petaling Jaya mayor Datuk Mohd Azizi Mohd Zain had been quoted then as saying it was not economical to relocate the trees.
He had also said that as one of the conditions for the project’s approval, highway developer Prolintas was required to replant two trees for every tree cut down to make way for the alignment.
