A COLLAPSED drain on a hill in Taman Rawang Perdana has led to rainwater flowing into a 25m retaining wall along Jalan RP 11.
Residents living at the foothill along Jalan RP11/8 in this Rawang neighbourhood fear that the retaining wall could also collapse as a result of soil erosion.
Other double-storey houses along Jalan 11/4, 11/5, 11/6 and 11/7 would also be affected if the retaining wall collapsed.
Resident Mogan Pongwawanam, 67, who lives in Jalan RP11/8, said six months ago, a tree near the retaining wall uprooted and fell on the road next to the houses.
“Many residents park their vehicles here but fortunately, on that day, there were no vehicles or children playing there at the time.
“Occasionally, I engage a grass cutter to prune the trees and clear weeds by the side of the wall to prevent soil erosion,” he said.
Selayang MIC division chief M.B. Raja, who walks along the route every evening, urged the local council to repair the drain before any untoward incident takes place.
“Water is now seeping through cracks on the retaining wall.
“There is a chance the wall could give way and result in a mudslide during a downpour,” said Raja.
Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) public relations officer Ahmad Fauzi Ishak said the council would get the Engineering Department to visit the site immediately.
“If our investigation finds that it is not safe, we will repair the wall,’’ he said.
