JOHOR BARU: Sunway City Iskandar Puteri (SCIP) has partnered with SWM Environment Sdn Bhd to launch Johor’s first cloud-based sustainable waste management system. This innovative platform enhances SCIP’s recycling monitoring and analysis, providing real-time insights to improve sustainability initiatives and waste diversion from landfills.
Since 2018, SCIP has collected over 260,000kg of recyclables and aims to significantly increase its landfill diversion rate in line with the Iskandar Puteri Climate Action Plan 2030.
“Sunway Property remains dedicated to innovative solutions that advance sustainability in practical and impactful ways. Our commitment here is deeply rooted in the energy and passion of our young team in driving such initiatives towards shaping a greener future for Iskandar Puteri,” said SCIP chief executive officer Gerard Soosay.
“This partnership is a bold step that allows KITARecycle in expanding into cloud-data based to complement our effort to digitalised incentivise recycling system and able to support the environmental, social and governance (ESG) initiative done by our corporate partner,” said SWM Environment general manager corporate Mohd Norlisam Mohd Nordin.
In addition to the cloud system, SCIP has converted over 4,000kg of used cooking oil into biofuels and offers residents the KITARecycle programme to monitor their recycling contributions. The township features two recycling drop-off stations funded by the Iskandar Puteri Low Carbon Community Grant and plans to build dedicated recycling stations in future developments.
Gerard reiterated their commitment to sustainable development, aligning efforts with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly emphasising Goal 17: Partnership for the Goals, which highlights the importance of collaboration among developers, service partners and the community.
