PETALING JAYA: Sunsuria Education International, a subsidiary of Sunsuria Bhd (Sunsuria), has entered into a strategic partnership with Concord College International Limited (CCIL) to bring British international education to key markets in Asia. The partnership, formalised through a territorial exclusivity agreement, grants Sunsuria the exclusive rights to establish and operate Concord College-branded schools in several countries, including Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, India and other regions in Southeast and South Asia.
The agreement was signed during a ceremony in Shrewsbury, UK, between Sunsuria executive chairman and Concord College International School Board of Governors chairman Tan Sri Ter Leong Yap and CCIL director Brian R Yates.
Concord College, founded in 1949, is a renowned independent international day and boarding school based in Shropshire, UK and is a subsidiary of The Bell Concord Educational Trust Limited, a UK-based educational charity. The agreement marks an exciting milestone for Sunsuria, enabling the company to expand its educational footprint across Asia.
Yap said: “We are pleased to announce this exciting new chapter with Concord College International. Expanding our business footprint in education across Asia and Southeast Asia allows us to diversify into more overseas markets and extend our Sunsuria brand further into the region.”
This collaboration has already seen its first success with the establishment of Concord College International School in Sunsuria City, marking the first international school in the ASEAN region modelled after Concord College UK. Furthermore, the school has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Xiamen University Malaysia to collaborate on developing and implementing super-curriculum activities that aim to promote intellectual curiosity and academic excellence.
Concord College International chairman Iain M. Bride praised Sunsuria's alignment with Concord College’s educational values. He highlighted the shared vision, saying, “With over 2,000 Malaysian students gaining entry to top British universities through Concord College UK over the past 60 years, many potential partners had approached CCIL to open a school in Malaysia – but none shared the same attitudes towards education until Sunsuria came along.”
This partnership is expected to set new benchmarks for high-quality British education in Asia, with a focus on nurturing academic excellence and holistic development in students across the region.
