PETALING JAYA: Sunsuria Bhd will be introducing a Bicycle Sharing Programme, linking the 525-acre Sunsuria City with green and economical transportation.

The freehold integrated township in Putrajaya South with a gross development value (GDV) of RM10bil will be rolling out seven bicycle stations in the next three years, with plans to eventually expand the bicycle stations across the entire township.

The first three stations, situated at Salak Tinggi Express Rail Link train station, Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) and Sunsuria’s show gallery, are expected to be launched in the first quarter of next year. There will also be 500m walkways and cycling tracks connecting XMUM to the ERL station.

In the press event held last Thursday, Oride chief executive officer Harry Wong said the initial phase with an approximate investment of RM300,000 to RM400,000 will provide a total of 50 bicycles and 70 parking docks within the three stations. Public users will be required to register for membership, while XMUM students will be able to use their student card to register for the service.

The Sunsuria Oride Bicycle Sharing Programme is a collaboration of Sunsuria Oride Sdn Bhd (SOSB) and Oride (M) Sdn Bhd to encourage an eco-friendly lifestyle. It will allow users to rent bicycles from designated bicycle stations.

He added that the price for the public will be RM1 for the first hour with a subsequent charge of RM1.50 per hour. For students, there will be a promotional period of one month, offering the first hour bicycle service free of change, with a rate of RM1 per hour subsequently. He explained that the hourly charges are to ensure maximum use of the service by multiple users instead of a single user for a longer period.

He said that the programme is expected to serve the local community with an expected population of 20,000 XMUM students and 10,000 local workers.
While there are plans to provide 24-hour service in future, the hours of service during the preliminary phase will be set from 7am to 9pm.

Sunsuria Bhd founder and executive chairman Datuk Ter Leong Yap said the program symbolises the beginning of smart, liveable and sustainable lifestyles, adding the developer has done a lot of brainstorming with the younger generation in order to incorporate their needs while creating the best living environment in the township development.

The programme will include modern bicycle-locking devices, site controllers, public bicycles and a smart control management system. The bicycles are made of highly durable and corrosion-resistant aluminium alloy with 24” frame wheels.

SOSB also signed a Memorandum of Collaboration with XMUM for establishing the Sunsuria Bicycle Sharing station at the East Entrance of the XMUM. Present at the signing were Professor Zhang to of XMUM and Sunsuria Bhd chief executive officer Koong Wai Seng.

Koong said Sunsuria City is aiming for launches worth RM1bil with a sales target of RM900mil in next financial year, which will end at September 2017.

He added that the current financial year has seen Sunsuria launching 10% of the township development.
