SUBANG Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) will have to wait a little longer before its application for city status is tabled at the Selangor State Assembly.
Having filed for the status last year, MPSJ acting president Mohd Zulkarnain Che Ali said the council’s request was unlikely to be discussed this year as there were other councils waiting their turn.
“Other councils have also applied for city status alongside us. Some of them will be given priority as they need it more than we do or have been waiting for a long time.
“Subang Jaya is considered a younger township in comparison to them, and the state government is still monitoring our progress.
Meanwhile, the term for all MPSJ councillors has been extended until June 30 next year.
Mohd Zulkarnain said this decision was made by the state government.
“Usually their term will end at the end of the year but because of the general election has not taken place, it has been extended to June,” he said.
On a separate note, MPSJ appointed 24 councillors and 22 council officers as leaders and advisors of the Anti-Denggi Zon JKP campaign.
Health, Welfare, Women and Family Affairs exco senior secretary Mohd Hanafi Jusoh said these roles were given to ensure that the efforts to curb dengue continued.
“To-date, MPSJ is a locality with the lowest number of cases in Selangor.
“This year, the state spent RM5mil to handle dengue cases and channelled RM10,000 to the constituency,” he said.
