JOHOR BARU: Plans are in the pipeline to enable more eligible first-time house buyers to own affordable homes in the Tanjung Puteri state seat.
Its assemblyman Datuk Adam Sumiru said that the state government had agreed to build the houses under the Johor Affordable Housing (RMMJ) scheme.
He said the housing project would be undertaken by the state-linked company Kumpulan Prasarana Rakyat Johor Sdn Bhd on a 3.64ha site along Jalan Tapah near Jalan Stulang Baru.
“We are looking at building four to five blocks.
“Each block will have 10 stories for a total of between 500 and 700 units of affordable flats,” Adam said.
He said this after presenting new uniforms to People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) members from the Johor Baru constituency in conjunction with Johor Baru Rela’s Hari Raya open house.
The members are from Rela Mukim Bandar, Tanjung Puteri, Stulang Laut, Sri Stulang, Sri Iskandar, Stulang Darat, Flat Larkin, Kampung Mahmoodiah, Kampung Melayu, Kampung Bendahara, Bukit Saujana, Bandar Baru Uda, Melodies Garden and Taman Larkin.
Adam said the project would start anytime soon after getting approval from the relevant authorities and would be ready in three to four years’ time.
“The flats will be priced between RM80,000 and RM150,000 each and the units are only for first-time houses buyers who do not own any properties,” he said.
Meanwhile, Johor Rela director Md Shah Rizal Zainal hoped more locals would join the organisation so they could play a role in combating crime in the state.
“Crime prevention is a two way-street and each of us has a role to play,” he said
Md Shah added there are more than 190,000 Rela members in Johor with 23,000 in the Johor Baru district and 3,000 in the Johor Baru constituency.
