MOTORISTS and residents in Taman Mayang, SS25, plan to start a petition to ensure Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) orders the owner of a private multi-level carpark there to resume operations.
Resident Chan Chow Wang said he had called the council’s Urban Planning Department several times over the closure of the multi-level carpark but had been ignored
He said motorists in the area were forced to double park on Jalan SS25/24 and on other road shoulders.
“Majority of motorists here hope that the private carpark will be open for public use.
“Closure of the carpark had aggravated the parking shortage.
“Visitors who frequent this area are frustrated while residents living around the commercial area had to put up with the worsened traffic congestion,” he said.
Since Oct 16, 2014, StarMetro had highlighted the issue of the multi-level building which had been turned into a warehouse.
After several reports in this newspaper, MBPJ took action and the warehouse operator moved out in December 2015.
Chan said “under the Uniform Building Local Council By-Laws, the developer is required to provide sufficient parking bays for the 14 shoplots approved under the Development Order (DO).
The conversion to a warehouse was against the original DO approval,” he said.
MBPJ public relations officer Zainun Zakaria said the council’s Urban Planning Department would call the building owner for a meeting to resolve the matter before the month’s end.
“People have to understand that it is not a simple matter as parking charges, operations time, security of the premises and other matters will have to be discussed,” she said.
