SINGAPORE: To honour its pledge to reduce emission intensity by 36% from the levels marked in 2005 with an end goal to reach peak emission by 2030, Singapore Green Building Week (SGBW) 2016 invites the whole community to play their part in building a safer and greener world.
The major international campaign will feature three anchor events, namely International Green Building Conference (IGBC) 2016, Build Eco Xpo (BEX) Asia 2016 and Mostra Convegno Expocomfort (MCE) ASIA 2016, and is expecting to attract over 26,000 participants from 50 countries with a total of 23 events.
Launched today by Minister for National Development Lawrence Wong at the Marina Bay Sands Expo & Convention Centre, Singapore, the event is organised by the Building and Construction Authority of Singapore (BCA) in partnership with Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC) and Reed Exhibitions.
International Green Building Conference (IGBC) 2016
In conjunction with its theme “Build Green: The Next Decade”, IGBC 2016 endeavours to step up the green building movement to provide a sustainable future for the following generations.
“Going Green and building sustainable buildings are not the responsibility of only one party, but requires the collective effort of government bodies and private corporations such as developers, architects, consultants and other industry stakeholders. With this in mind, BEX and MCE Asia and IGBC continually working hand in hand with like-minded stakeholders to find practical solutions to build sustainable buildings and encourage the adoption of energy conservation technologies together,” said Reed Exhibition managing director Michelle Lim in a statement.
BCA Breakfast Talk for CEOs are held on the third and final day of IGBC 2016. Senior Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of National Development Desmond Lee will be the Guest of Honour.
“As a follow up to the historic Paris Climate Agreement last year, five of the world's largest investor networks, in cooperation with the Global Alliance on Buildings and Construction and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, will continue their discussion in Singapore on the way forward,” said BCA Chairman Lee Fook Sun.

“Fifty years ago, our tallest structure was the former Asia Insurance Building. At 20-storey high, it was also the tallest building in South East Asia. Today, even our public housing buildings are more than double that height! We needed to not just build, but to build smarter and greener. Today, around a third of our buildings are green. Our Green Mark certification schemes are used in over 80 cities around the world. We are recognised as among the leading cities in the world for our green building efforts,” said Wong.

There will be 27 countries represented in BEX and MCE Asia, comprising more than 450 exhibiting companies.
“Singapore is widely regarded as a liveable and sustainable city. But this achievement did not come by chance, and is the result of meticulous planning, foresight and more importantly multi-party and inter-country collaboration,” said World Green Building Council (WGBC) board of directors chairman Tai Lee Siang.
Exhibiting companies consist of industry leaders like Alubond Industrial Co. Ltd, Billion Electric Co. Ltd, HDL Automation Co. Ltd, Mun Hean Singapore Pte Ltd, Sorel Pte Ltd, ST Electronics (Satcom & Sensor Systems) Pte Ltd and Tuas Power Supply Pte Ltd.
MCE Asia will also raise awareness of the selection and maintenance of building systems via energy efficient solutions.
