LESS than 23% of residents in Shah Alam have paid their assessment tax for the current term.
In the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) fullboard meeting yesterday, Finance Department director Affandi Jaafar revealed that out of the total RM139mil, only RM31.6mil in assessment fees for the first half of this year had been collected last month, leaving a balance of RM107.4mil outstanding.
In addition, RM4.7mil out of RM39.6mil – which is less than 12% – in assessment tax arrears from previous years was collected last month, leaving a balance of RM35mil yet to be recovered.
With less than a week left before the payment deadline for the current assessment period, Shah Alam mayor Datuk Ahmad Zaharin Mohd Saad urged the councillors to advise residents to settle their payment on time.
Payment can be made in person at Wisma MBSA as well as council branch offices in Kota Kemuning, Sungai Buloh and Shah Alam.
Additional service counters are open from 9am to 1pm on weekends at these offices.
Property owners can also pay their assessment fees at the Shah Alam On Wheels mobile service counter, which is parked at designated hypermarkets every Saturday.
Assessment tax can also be paid at various other places such as post offices and designated banks.
In addition, payment can also be made online through MBSA’s website and e-banking sites using credit or debit cards.
To make it easier for those who cannot pay the full amount right away, Affandi said the public can approach MBSA’s Finance Department to work out an instalment plan.
He added that ratepayers who paid the assessment fee for the full year, with the sum exceeding RM100, and have no outstanding tax arrears would receive an MBSA umbrella as a gift.
