KULAI: The Johor government wants all local councils to set up its own park committees involving the public to ensure that facilities are well maintained.
State Housing and Local Government committee chairman Datuk Abdul Latif Bandi said the Rakan Taman Bandar committee was introduced to encourage better cooperation between the public and the local councils in order to keep the environment and park facilities in good condition.
A committee, he said, worked as the eyes and ears of a local council in its effort to improve the parks as activity centres that serve the benefit of its residents and visitors.
“It can also act as a platform for the community to contribute ideas to further improve the facilities in the parks,” he said when attending the council’s town hall session with the public at Hutan Bandar Kulai yesterday.
Abdul Latif reminded the committee to involve the public, since ultimately it was the public who would be using the facilities.
This made the public the people best suited to highlight damage to or problems with the parks to the council.
He said the Kulai Municipal Council was the first local council to set up such a committee, where 13 active members of the public were appointed as committee members tasked to keep the park clean and beautiful.
He added that the Hutan Bandar Kulai would soon be upgraded with the state government setting aside a RM3.7mil allocation for the task at hand.
“We are now finalising the work papers and planning for the park to make sure that it will be well equipped with the necessary facilities,” he said, adding that the upgrade work would begin next year.
