KUALA LUMPUR: YTL Land and Development Bhd is pleased to announce that Sentul Works at Sentul West has won two awards at the prestigious Malaysia Property Award 2024 in the Heritage Category and Office Category.
The Malaysia Property Award by FIABCI Malaysia has long been a beacon of excellence in the industry, showcasing trailblazing property developments that set benchmarks for outstanding achievements in innovation and sustainability.
The double win by one project in two categories is a rare achievement in the record of the Malaysia Property Award. This extraordinary feat is a remarkable affirmation of YTL Land’s vision for the restoration and preservation of a century-old colonial building that pays tribute to Sentul’s rich railway heritage.
Established in the early 1900s during the bygone era of the Federated Malay States Railways (FMSR), the dilapidated building stood abandoned for years as a silent witness to Sentul’s storied past. This icon of the past, now masterfully restored as Sentul Works, enjoys a new lease of life as Kuala Lumpur’s first modern contemporary heritage office in a pristine park.
“We are humbled by FIABCI Malaysia’s recognition of our conservation-led initiative for Sentul Works. The restoration of the colonial building demonstrates a deep respect for its cultural and historical significance. Today, the century-old building is reconnected with a new generation of workforce occupying this unique space where history meets modernity in a historical neighbourhood right in the heart of Kuala Lumpur city,” said YTL managing director Datuk Yeoh Seok Kian.
“Over the years, as the urban regeneration of Sentul gathered pace, we completed part of our residential and commercial projects in Sentul East. With our commitment to environmental renewal and passion for heritage conservation, the timing was right to continue our series of conservation-led heritage projects in Sentul West where some of the finest historical railway buildings from the FMSR era still stand tall today in the face of urban renewal,” he said.
The accolade for Sentul Works as the newest architectural icon in Sentul West is also a token of YTL Land’s vision in spearheading the urban renewal and transformation of Sentul, once a run-down ageing district of Kuala Lumpur steeped in century-old railway history, into a dynamic and inclusive community enriched with its rare heritage while embracing innovation and progress to propel it into a vibrant future.
