SENIOR citizen Mohd Isa Abdullah Aziz, 76, wants to spend his twilight years with his family in Section 14, Petaling Jaya.
Mohd Isa told StarMetro that he worried almost every day about what would happen if the much talked about Petaling Jaya Dispersal Link (PJD Link) highway project was approved in the neighbourhood.
“I cannot imagine moving anywhere else, at this age, or live near a highway,” said Mohd Isa who has lived in the neighbourhood since 1968.
Just like him, thousands of residents from the neighbourhood fear the PJD Link will somehow be approved.
The highway is speculated to replace the cancelled Kinrara Damansara Expressway (Kidex).
Several residents gathered on Sunday to express their concerns to the media.
Sheikh Moqhtar Kadir, who was representing the residents, said he had been in contact with the ministry.
“We have written confirmation from the Selangor government that the highway will not take place.
“We also want the Works Ministry to assure us that the highway project will not take place,” he said.
Sheikh Moqhtar said residents want to meet and speak with the minister directly and put all speculations to rest.
“We have neighbours who bought their properties about two years ago, and they are equally worried that a highway project will result in their houses being acquired,
“We have many residents who are spending their twilight years here who want to pass down the property to their children.
“The rest of us do not want an elevated highway in front of our houses,” he said.
“We have been living here for a long time. Our plea must be heard too,” he said.
The residents received support from Petaling Jaya Utara MCA chairman Tan Gim Tuan.
“We have been against Kidex and the talked about PJD Link.
“Petaling Jaya City Council and the Selangor government must be mindful when approving high-density projects in Section 13 and Section 52.
“These will definitely change the traffic pattern in the city and affect some residents such as those living in Section 14, which is nearby Section 13 and Section 52,” said Tan.
