BEGINNING today, motorists using Jalan Timur on the one-way loop in Petaling Jaya cannot cut across to the right heading for Amcorp Mall.
Barriers (orange line in map) have been placed along the stretch to stop motorists from weaving across the lanes.
The move is for a period of one month, ending March 14.
The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) placed road barriers along Jalan Timur at 11pm yesterday.
With these barriers, motorists on Jalan Timur will not be able to criss-cross along the stretch until Wisma TNB.
MBPJ public relations officer Zainun Zakaria said the council anticipated motorists to criss-cross after Wisma TNB.
“We will have our enforcement officers manage the traffic, especially at this stretch,” he said.
It was earlier reported that MBPJ’s one-way loop project consultant had recommended to place the barriers for a trial period.
“The consultant informed us that it was very dangerous for motorists to weave towards Amcorp Mall after exiting from the Federal Highway (from Kuala Lumpur) and entering the loop near Taman Tasik Jaya.
“During the closure, we will study ways to improve traffic safety along the Jalan Timur stretch before deciding on a permanent route,” said Zainun.
He said there was an alternative route for those using the loop.
“Motorists can exit at the slip road near Hilton Petaling Jaya at Jalan Utara. They can then enter the Federal Highway (Kuala Lumpur-bound) and exit at the slip road on Jalan Timur and keep to their right to head for Amcorp Mall,” Zainun suggested.
