RESIDENTS of the Taman Kem low-cost flats in Port Klang will be given a RM5mil allocation for repairs and maintenance of their homes.
Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Tan Sri Noh Omar, who visited the area, said the allocation was justified based on the 36-year-old flats’ poor condition.
Following his visit to the flats, he felt that the residents deserved better living conditions.
“It is sad that they have to live in such an environment and the flats have not been maintained for many years,” he said.
Besides repair works, Noh said the money could be used to paint the buildings.
He said his ministry had approved RM500,000 for the construction of a futsal court-cum-multipurpose hall for residents in the area.
He added that RM60,000 would also be given to repair a surau in the area, which was also in poor condition.
Noh said the allocation granted to Taman Kem showed that the Barisan Nasional government was considerate and concerned over the welfare of the people.
The Pakatan Rakyat’s Skim Ceria, he said, which was for repairing of low-cost flats, had not helped low-cost dwellers.
