KUANG residents say a crossroad in the town is dangerous and needs to be widened.
They also said the traffic light at the crossroad at Simpang 4 in Batu 18 Kuang, often malfunctions.
Kuang assemblyman Datuk Abdul Shukur Idrus said the roads need to be widened as Kundang and Kuang had experienced rapid development with new townships springing up.
“To make matters worse, many lorries from the nearby quarry use this road daily.
“This small junction is unable to cope with the heavy traffic.
“Instead of a one-lane road, the Public Works Department (PWD) should widen the road and make it two lanes on each side.
“I was informed that there is a road reserve but the land acquisition needs to be handled by the Gombak District Land Office.
“As someone who resides in Kampung Gombak, I also have to face this situation daily when getting out of my area,” he said.
Ahli Adi, 48, a fruit seller at Kampung Kundang Permata along Jalan Setia, said traffic was terrible whenever the traffic light at the junction did not function.
“Sometimes, the traffic jam stretches for 2km during rush hour,” said Ahli, who had lived in the area since 1990.
Raziali Mohamed, 37, who manages a chicken feed and fish food shop nearby the crossroad, said he had witnessed many accidents, including fatal ones, as motorcyclists rarely wore helmets when they were in town.
“The jam is worse when the traffic light is not functioning as no motorist wants to give way.
“I hope the authorities will widen the road and take immediate action when the traffic light is not working,” he said.
Selayang Municipal Council Corporate Department deputy director Ahmad Fauzi Ishak said they would look into the matter.
