RESIDENTS of Taman Sri Ukay, Ampang have beefed up security in the neighbourhood after a spate of crime.
Taman Sri Ukay Hillview Residents Association deputy president N. Selvanayagam said there had been at least 18 incidents during the past year including robberies, snatch thefts and break-ins.
“In April, police shot dead three suspects believed to be part of a six-man gang in a raid at one of the blocks of the abandoned Highland Towers.
“In view of this, we have enhanced our security features, including hiring guards and installing CCTV cameras,” he said during the association’s Hari Raya gathering.
He reiterated the residents’ call that Highland Towers be demolished as it had become a hideout for robbers and drug addicts.
Selvanayagam also commended Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) and the police for their quick response.
Meanwhile, association president Datuk Siti Hendon Chik said this was the first time that their Hari Raya do was co-organised with Surau Al Muhajirin.
The event was held within the surau compound and attended by some 300 residents.
