THE influx of foreigners, including illegal immigrants, is becoming a major concern for the residents association of Aman Perdana in Klang.
The township, which houses more than 2,000 homes, including double-storey terrace units, bungalows and 400 low-cost flats, is attracting a lot of “foreign interest” because it has many abandoned shoplots.
RA chairman A. Maniam, who has held the position since the association’s formation eight years ago, said the foreign presence was causing a lot of discomfort among residents.
He stressed that the association and the residents had nothing against foreigners but feared their huge presence could lead to social problems.
“The foreigners have been relocated from the shoplots following objections from residents.
“However, we now have a new problem as more and more foreigners, believed to be illegals, are occupying the vacant shoplots,” he said.
Over the years, Maniam said, the association had been successful in establishing a strong rapport with the enforcement authorities, including the police.
As a long-term solution, he said, the RA planned to set up a community policing team made up of residents.
“We want to carry out the community policing exercise for the benefit of the residents so that they can enjoy a peaceful environment,” he said.
