Events, research and education are key drivers for industry progress.

THE empowerment of professionals and stakeholders is crucial for driving progress in the real estate industry.

In Rehda Institute’s case, its three pillars on events and training, research and education, that are relevant to all stakeholders of the real estate industry, are intended to contribute to empowerment efforts.

Rehda Institute chairman Datuk Jeffrey Ng Tiong Lip shared the training and events that were organised previously were on ongoing issues related to the property market to address the needs of middle management personnel.

The Rehda Institute 2016 CEO Series was organised to present top-level management, such as CEOs of very large public listed companies, another dimension to explore, instead of talking to their management team. Very experienced and qualified speakers were invited to give some insights.

Reflecting on the full-house attendance of the seminar, Ng said that the quantity and quality of attendees were equally important.

“We really hope to get more senior management participation, not necessarily just developers, but also senior members of banks and construction companies.

“We want to open up to more stakeholders involved in the real estate market as a whole. If we continue this high standard of sharing new ideas, it will become a very sustainable avenue and keep Rehda Institute relevant,” Ng said.

In the case of research, Rehda Institute is building its team to perform deeper research on new areas that are relevant to past and current issues impacting the industry. Examples include inequitable legal outcomes concerning land matters and practical issues related to the implementation of Strata Management Act 2013.

Identified issues are debated at Rehda Malaysia and then conveyed to various ministers, ministries and local authorities.

Education also plays a role in the development of the industry. Rehda Institute is collaborating with a tertiary educational institution to establish an executive programme to certify professionals and help them to become all-rounded for property development businesses.

Once professionals have been trained in Rehda Institute’s programme, they would gain all-rounded understanding of issues such as land matters, obtaining approvals from various ministries and local authorities, financing, sales and marketing, and project and property management.
