THE biggest multi-purpose hall in north Seberang Prai in Penang will soon be built in Ampang Jajar, Butterworth.
The RM42.6mil double-storey air-conditioned banquet hall will be built by the Penang Develop-ment Corporation (PDC) on a 6.7ha plot beside Jalan Permatang Pauh.
Work on the project is expected to be end in 2019.
The hall will occupy 4.1ha of the plot while an international standard swimming pool is planned on the remaining portion of the land under a future phase.
It will have a built-up area of 17,800sq m and will have three ballrooms which, if combined, could accommodate a total of 360 tables.
“There will also be a stage and four function rooms, and two separate kitchens,” Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said at its ground-breaking ceremony on Saturday.
For vehicles, he said there would be 600 parking lots for cars and 400 lots for motorcycles.
Guan Eng said locals could hold dinners and events at the hall.
Also present were state Works, Utilities and Transportation Committee chairman Lim Hock Seng, PDC general manager Datuk Rosli Jaafar and Seberang Prai Municipal Council president Datuk Rozali Mohamud.
At another function later, Guan Eng handed a state government allocation of RM100,000 to Persatuan Penganut Dewi Bodhisatha Guang Yin in Seberang Jaya for the temple to build a new complex.
