IT IS compulsory for property owners in Petaling Jaya to update their ownership details with the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), failing which, they will be penalised.
They can be fined up to RM2,000 or jailed no more than six months or both as stipulated under the Local Government Act 1976.
MBPJ public relations officer Zainun Zakariah said property owners mostly with assets in the newer developments in Petaling Jaya Utara (PJU) have failed to update their details.
The property type comprised high-rise residential units such as condominium, apartment and flats.
“Sometimes buyers would have submitted their details to their developer, who failed to update the council.
“We urge the public to check with the council if their details are up-to-date,” she said, adding that it was the responsibility of both the buyer and seller to ensure the council had the latest ownership details.
Zainun added that details of the new owner must be updated with the council within three months of ownership.
Property owners can check the accuracy of their details through their assessment bill.
If the assessment form does not bear the owner’s name but addressed it as “pemilik”, then the owner must make the amendments.
To make changes, download Borang I from www.mbpj.gov.my, and fill the particulars before submitting it at the MBPJ headquarters.
The forms can also be submitted to the MBPJ branch office at No 17 and 19, Jalan Pekaka 8/1D, PJU 5, Prestij Kota Damansara.
