TAMAN Wahyu residents are upset over noise and air pollution in their neighbourhood caused by the construction of three flood detention ponds since last year.
The residents claim that works such as piling are being carried out until 11pm, resulting in ground vibration that keeps them awake.
Work on the Wahyu, Batu and Jinjang detention ponds commenced last October as a flood mitigation measure.
Taman Wahyu Residents Association chairman Ong Kean Eng is worried that the vibrations caused by piling works would lead to damage of property.
Ong said lorries carrying construction material are causing dust pollution in Jalan Sibu 13, which is residential area.
A check by StarMetro showed that the construction area, which spans 32.3ha, is managed by a private developer.
“The project has caused negative environmental impact,” Kepong Community Service Centre head Yee Poh Ping said.
He added that the area should be for recreational purposes as promised by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).
Yee said he had written to the Federal Territories Land Office regarding the issue in May last year.
“The reply stated that one of the conditions for approval was that the flood mitigation project would not be affected.
“However, the letter did not clearly state the details of the project.”
He urged the land office to inform the public on details of the project and also hoped that DBKL would promptly look into this matter.
