TAMAN Million residents in Kuala Lumpur are seeing red over rusty playground equipment unsafe for children to play on.
According to residents, the equipment at the playground sandwiched between Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah (formerly known as Jalan Ipoh) and Jalan Tiong, has not been repaired or refurbished for several years and is left to rust.
K. Rajini urged Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to upgrade or refurbish the place.
“The rusty equipment like monkey bars and swing are not suitable for children to play on.
“I hope the authorities will apply a fresh coat of paint so that children can continue playing there safely,” he said.
During a check by StarMetro, facilities at the pocket park located along the main road were found to be functional but rusty.
However, one of the swings in the middle of the park was missing.
The pedestrian walkway leading to the park was also damaged.
Making the playground environment even less conducive are hawkers running stalls on the roadside next to it.
Another resident, C.H Lee, 46, said fewer families gathered at the park because of the poor state of the equipment and park.
“The hawkers are putting chairs and tables on the cemented area in the park, it is just not conducive for the families who are using the park.
“Since there are several commercial blocks here, DBKL can consider adding more chairs so people can relax at the park,” he said.
DBKL was not reachable for comments at press time.
