PETALING JAYA: Selangor residents are fuming over the disruption of water supply believed to have been caused by the detection of contaminants at the Sungai Semenyih water treatment plant in Dengkil.
Digital technology manager Lockman Hakeem, 45, who lives in USJ3/1, Subang Jaya, said his family had to limit their water consumption for cooking.
“My family have not taken a proper bath for three days,” he said.
The situation was made worse when the water in the tank installed at his house could only last for about 24 hours.
“It’s irritating. We had the same issue the week before where there was no water for three days before supply resumed. Barely two days after resumption, another disruption happens,” he added.
Lockman also said only one water tanker came on Saturday to provide water for the residents.
“We understand their contamination issue. All we are asking is at least send in more tankers because my area is the furthest in the distribution area.
“They should know which area is vulnerable,” he added.
Water supply has been restored in several areas in Subang Jaya although some residents experienced water discolouration.
Businessman Ganesha Pillai Prathapa Senan, 26, who lives in USJ3/4, said he was thankful that water supply was back after several days of not having enough water to properly clean himself.
“The water pressure is fine but the water is not quite clear,” he said.
Affected residents have also voiced their frustrations on social media.
“Friday evening till this morning (Sunday), at SS17 Subang Jaya, twice last weekend too,” said Erianty Cross.
Facebook user Edwin AuYong said his friend in USJ11, who faced water disruption since Friday claimed that there no notice of water cuts was given.
Ahmootha Ramachandran in USJ 4, Subang Jaya claimed it was the third time in one month that she had no water.
Semenyih River is the main waterway from the Semenyih dam to the treatment plant. The facility produces more than 630 million litres of water daily.
It was reported that the Semenyih Hi-Tech Industrial Park was the source of the contamination problem.
The affected districts are Hulu Langat (Bangi, Bandar Bukit Mahkota, Kajang, Semenyih and Riching); Kuala Langat (Morib, Banting, Bandar Saujana Putra, Bandar Rimbayu and Telok Panglima Garang); Petaling (USJ 1 to USJ 27, Puchong, Seri Kembangan and Serdang) and Sepang (Putrajaya, Cyberjaya, Bandar Nusa Putra, Putra Heights, Pulau Meranti, Kota Warisan, Bandar Bukit Puchong and Sungai Merab).
