Bridge users lining up to buy electronic cards and smart tags following the start of the full Electronic Toll Collection system at the toll plaza in Batu Kawan.

MORE vehicles are now using the Jambatan Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah (JSAHMS) following the opening of the upgraded Bayan Lepas Expressway in April.

JSAHMS corporate communications manger Azizi Azizan said about 14,500 to 15,000 vehicles were using the bridge daily.

“In April, 447,087 vehicles used the bridge. From January to April, 1.7 million vehicles used the bridge.

“Our target is 25,000 vehicles daily in the first five years,” Azizi told reporters during the start of the implementation of the full Electronic Toll Collection system at the bridge toll plaza in Batu Kawan on the mainland recently.

Also present was Malaysian Highway Authority toll monitoring division director Idrus Mat Tais.

Azizi also said that last year, 4.7 million vehicles were recorded using the second Penang bridge.
