MALACCA: All reclamation works in Malacca are carried out according to the requirements set by the Federal Government, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron.
He said the government always made sure the operating procedures were in accordance with the Department of Environment and local authorities.
Idris said relevant departments also constantly monitor the projects to ensure no environmental damage to the shorelines.
“It’s not right for Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng to state that the reclamation projects here are not based on the approved guidelines,” he said after visiting the Xinyi Glass factory in Lipat Kajang, in Jasin on Tuesday.
He said Malacca has always focused on preserving the environment by making it the main agenda in its administrative policy.
Idris said Lim shouldn’t make Malacca the scapegoat for every single issue, especially when making comparisons on administrative aspects or projects.
He said this when commenting on media reports on Lim who had claimed biasness on the coverage of land reclamation in Penang that had caused environmental damage
Lim had questioned why the reclamation projects carried out by Malacca and Perak were not reported in the media.
