MITRALAND Group did not forget the less fortunate during the ground-breaking ceremony of its lake park at the Gravit8 development project in Port Klang.
Believing in giving back to society, the group donated RM10,000 to the Star Foundation, the charitable arm of Star Media Group Bhd.
The Star executive editor Esther Ng received the cheque from Mitraland Group chief executive officer Chuah Theong Yee and chairman Datuk Johan Ariffin in a ceremony at the Gravit8 sales office.
A total of eight charitable funds and organisations received donations worth RM90,000 from Mitraland.
The other eight recipients were Sin Chew Foundation, Nanyang Press Foundation, The Edge Education Foundation, New Straits Times English Development Programme, Lions Education Fund, Pertubuhan Al-Khaadem and Kiwanis Club of Taman Tun Dr Ismail.
The ground-breaking of the 3.2ha, RM11mil lake park was conducted by Klang Municipal Council (MPK) president Datuk Mohd Yasid Bidin.
Johan said the lake park would also act as a water retention pond and the cost was entirely funded by Mitraland.
The developer would also maintain the lake park at its own expense for five years before surrendering it to the relevant authorities.
Mohd Yasid commended Mitraland and said this was a “never before” effort by a property developer.
“Usually developers construct public amenities separately from their projects, and would normally hand over the maintenance quickly to the council,” he added.
Johan noted that the lake park would also feature integrated walkways as well as a jogging track and fitness stations, offering residents and the public more recreational and outdoor opportunities.
“The lake park is by Walrus Design, a multi-award winning landscape architect and their past works include the Kota Kemuning Wetlands, Desa Park City Central Park and Tropicana Metropark.
“We are confident the lake park at Gravit8 will be the differentiator with its aesthetics and functionality appealing to young urbanites,” he said.
With a total gross development value of RM1.3bil, the 6ha freehold Gravit8 comprises serviced apartments, specialty retail shops, maritime-themed retail mall, corporate offices and boutique hotel.
Conveniently situated near the proposed Johan Setia LRT station, the development features direct access to the Shah Alam Expressway towards Port Klang and is easily accessible via the Federal Highway, North Klang Valley Expressway and South Klang Valley Expressway.
