ALTHOUGH the state has approved two 1Malaysia People’s Housing (PR1MA) applications, the projects have not started yet, said Penang Housing, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo.
“We approved two out of four applications in October and November last year.
“The projects are in Bukit Gelugor (905 units) and Batu Ferringhi (1,248 units),” he told a press conference in Komtar on Friday.
He was refuting claims on a recent brochure which stated that 16,569 PR1MA housing units were being built in Penang.
Jagdeep said his office received four applications for PR1MA housing projects in Batu Ferringhi, Tasek Gelugor, Bukit Gelugor and Balik Pulau.
“Two applications were not approved because they did not follow our guidelines.
“They were returned to PR1MA to be revised.
“For example, in Balik Pulau, the proposed development was 29 blocks of flats up to 27 storeys while our guidelines for certain areas in Balik Pulau allow only a maximum height of 16 storeys,” he said.
