RESIDENTS of Jalan Kampung Benggali now have their own place for recreational activities following the upgrading of the pocket park in Lebuh Kampung Benggali, Butterworth.
The 1,096sq ft pocket park was upgraded by Think City Sdn Bhd at a cost of RM300,000 with the co-operation of the Seberang Prai Municipal Council (MPSP).
MPSP president Datuk Rozali Mohamud said the upgrading was part of the Butterworth Baharu Plan where Think City and MPSP worked together to upgrade facilities under the ongoing urban regeneration effort for Butterworth in line with Penang’s safer, cleaner, greener and healthier vision.
“The pocket park or mini park is a small scale open area. It is unique as there are exercise and play equipment and greenery even though the place is small,” he said in his speech before Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng opened the park on Saturday morning.
Guan Eng also participated in the groundbreaking ceremony to upgrade the multi-purpose court at the same place after opening the pocket park.
Earlier in his speech, he said the upgrading work for the community multi-purpose court would cost RM450,000 and MPSP and Think City would bear the cost.
“The upgrading work of the court will commence end of April and will have a multi-use hard court, shaded spectator area, landscaping and visual corridor/pedestrian walkway when completed,” he said.
