JOHOR BARU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is expected to officiate at Ekspo Johor Berkemajuan 2017 at Dataran Mahkota in Kota Iskandar next month.
State health, environment, education and information committee chairman Datuk Ayub Rahmat said the inaugural expo will be held from Oct 6 to 14.
“The Prime Minister, together with Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, will launch the expo on Oct 7.
“Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is also expected to attend the event on Oct 14.
“This is an opportunity for Bangsa Johor to find out about the government’s progress under the leadership of Mohamed Khaled,” he said.
Ayub said the state government expected 500,000 people, comprising both locals and foreigners, to attend the nine-day expo.
He said this during a media briefing on Ekspo Johor Berkemajuan 2017.
The expo would focus on three main clusters that would spur Johor’s position as Malaysia’s new economic powerhouse.
“This expo is held to place the state on the global stage and as a regional hub for trade, industry and innovation activities.
“It will also showcase Johor as the most progressive state in Malaysia with good infrastructure and the most developed transportation system, besides having a fast and efficient communication network,” Ayub added.
He urged the public to attend the expo as it would give them information on various state government programmes such as its affordable housing scheme.
