THE number of objects that can be found along Penang Bridge is not to be taken lightly.
According to PLUS Malaysia Bhd chief operating officer Mohammad Fuad Khusairi, objects or obstacles consisting of tyre fragments, steel bars, wooden bars, rocks, vehicle components were among the common items that could be found on the bridge or the dispersal roads at both ends of the bridge.
“About 900 such objects were collected by the PLUSRonda team on the Penang Bridge last year.
“Between January and March this year, PLUSRonda collected 190.
“From our observation and study, we found that the fallen objects such as wood, steel bars and others were mostly due to failure of heavy vehicle drivers to ensure their consignments were safe and secured,” he said in a recent statement.
He said PLUSRonda teams are on duty 24 hours every day and would be dispatched to remove the objects as soon as a report has been received.
Motorists are advised to notify PLUS immediately through the toll-free 1800 88 0000 if they see any objects or obstacles on the highway.
PLUS also urge heavy vehicle operators to ensure that their vehicles are in good condition at all times.
