Rapid ageing occurs in many parts of the world. As for Malaysia, the percentage of population aged 60 and above is projected to increase to 15% by 2030.
Understanding the market potential, Pelaburan Hartanah Bhd (PHB), UEM Group Bhd and Japan’s Medical Care, Service Inc (MCS) recently announced their joint-collaboration to develop a luxury senior living development project in Kuala Lumpur called Rei Seraya Residence. The announcement was made during the opening of Rei Seraya Discovery Gallery located at Jalan Ampang.
“The government has identified ‘senior living’ as one of the new growth areas under the healthcare sector in the Economic Transformation Programme.
“With the introduction of the new Private Aged Healthcare Facilities and Services Act, both facilities and services for the seniors shall be monitored and be of a certain acceptable standard by the relevant authorities,” said PHB group managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Kamalul Arifin Othman.
Rei Seraya Discovery Gallery will showcase senior-friendly design features to the public for better understanding the product and services provided in Rei Seraya Residence.
Meanwhile, it also served as a platform to conduct market feasibility research and gather social interest. The developer will then further fine-tune their design and services based on public feedback and demand.
Rei Seraya Residence is targeted for launch by end-2018 and starts its operation by 2021.
The 900 sq ft Independent Living unit is a two-bedroom residence with a series of carefully crafted senior-friendly design features.
About Rei Seraya Residence:
- 20-storey luxury senior living residential sited on 1.5 acres of land adjacent to Gleneagles Hospital.
- Two types of service: Assisted Living (300 sq ft) and Independent Living Service (900 sq ft).
- Designed by Thomson Adsett International, an Australian architect firm specialised in senior living design.
- The senior care services will be provided by the Medical Care, Service Inc (MSC), a Japan-based senior living care provider.
- The units are solely for lease and only open to senior citizens over age 60.
