ACCIDENTS happen so frequently at a spot on Persiaran Damansara Indah that it seems to be even attracting lottery punters.

Just days ago, a motorist died after losing control of his vehicle and crashing into a tree. StarMetro visited the accident spot and found remains from the crash such as shattered car parts.

Trees were also damaged and an electricity box toppled due to the accident.

Tropicana Indah residents want the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) to repair the street lights there, correctly demarcate the road and to install many traffic blinkers all along the road.

They also suggested for wide speed bumps at the area.

Resident Lam King Chun said the street lights have been faulty for over a month.

“The street lights look new and beautiful but they do not work.

“The main street light and those along Jalan 3/17 has been faulty for a month.

“It was repaired recently but only stayed working for a day.

“It is now once again faulty due to the accident.

“This accident prone area has caused two deaths and numerous accidents so far, I hope the road will be installed with many blinkers.

“People who are not familiar with this road may underestimate how winding the roads are,” said Lam who lived in the neighbourhood since 2010.

Resident Lim Siew Hoon suggested that the road’s demarcation along Persiaran Damansara Indah and Persiaran Tropicana be redone

“Before the roads were resurfaced, it was better demarcated.

“However, after the resurfacing, the demarcation was wrongly done,” said Lim lived there since 2002.

She said the roads had many blind corners and were on a hill.

“It is a windy road and there are blind spots.

“There are also locations where the road's three lanes merged into two,” said Lim.

The residents said they have been in talks with MBPJ over the years to install road humps but the proposal was rejected by the council.

Resident Mani Manian said some residents objected to the speed breakers as it created loud noise when cars passed.

“The wider road humps would be a better option instead of the speed breakers,” he said.

Area councillor Wong Yuet Leng went to the accident site with a contractor to get a quotation for road humps and traffic blinkers.

“Give me a month and I will get all the requests in place.

“I will suggest for a road hump near the accident prone locations,” she said, planning to discuss the matter further with the MBPJ engineering department soon.

She said motorists should drive safely and not speed.

“Motorists driving over the speed limit is one of the reasons why accidents happen.

“I hope drivers will be more mindful and not put their lives or others at risk,” she said.
