Kuala Lumpur: Naza Group officially handed over the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) to the Ministry of International Trade and Industry yesterday.
The ceremony was witnessed by the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, which was accompanied by his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.
Najib said MITEC will put Malaysia on the map in the MICE industry with its state-of-the-art facilities, bringing new business and leisure travellers to the country.
“MITEC is an example of how the Government’s plan has delivered and are continuing to deliver for Malaysians. I know MITEC will play its part in the prosperous, sustainable and inclusive Malaysia that we all want.
“I look forward to seeing the Southeast Asian Games athletes putting this wonderful new facility through its paves very soon,” he added.
Inspired by a rubber seed that symbolises the rubber industry contribution to Malaysia’s economic growth, MITEC is now established as Malaysia’s largest exhibition space in the Kuala Lumpur’s business district.
MITEC is strategically located within the Jalan Duta Government Complex area in Kuala Lumpur, neighbouring notable landmarks such as The Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Menara MATRADE, Kuala Lumpur High Court, the Federal Territory Mosque and The Istana Negara.
MITEC was developed to meet the growing demands of the Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions (MICE) industry.
Naza Group of Companies joint group executive chairman SM Nasarudin SM Nasimuddin said, “MITEC, a new iconic and prestigious landmark of Malaysia, is an example of a successful public-private partnership between the private sector and the government.
“We take pride in the completion of this RM628mil facility that has proven the group’s ability to undertake major turnkey infrastructure projects.
“MITEC is the first component within this high-impact RM20bil gross development value (GDV) development in KL Metropolis, a city within a city where trade, commerce, living and transport converge over 75 acres of prime land development,” he added.
Incorporate with nine mega exhibition halls, two medium-sized halls and a multi-purpose hall, MITEC can accommodate up to 47,700 visitors in theatre style sitting and 28,300 guests in banquet arrangement at any one time.
Spanning over three massive double-volume floors, the venue facilities include meeting and conference rooms, media and press facilities, lounges, retail, food and beverage outlets.
