MOTORISTS to the Ampang Jaya municipality can now pay for their parking through a cashless payment system.
Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) has initiated an e-payment method that allows motorists to pay for public parking bays via their smartphones through the mobile parking app, MPAJ Parking.
The pay-by-phone parking will complement the current coupon system.
MPAJ president Abdul Hamid Abdul Hussain said users could register up to six vehicles.
“The parking rate is still 50sen per hour but the minimum transaction is RM10.
“They will be charged the hourly rate but there is no expiration date. Motorists can even purchase a monthly pass which costs RM70 via the app,” he said during the launch at MPAJ’s auditorium.
A surcharge of RM1 will be charged for every transaction.
“It will be very convenient for users as they don’t have to buy parking coupons from shops.
“The app can alert users that their parking period is ending and they can immediately do a ‘top-up’ without rushing to their vehicles.
“Each time the app is used, the information will be made available to enforcement officers on duty in the relevant area.
“The officers can check their mobile devices and verify the number plate with the parked vehicle,” Abdul Hamid explained.
He added users would soon be able to pay their parking compounds through the app too.
MPAJ is the fourth council in Selangor to initiate the cashless parking payment system after Sepang, Kuala Langat and Shah Alam.
