AMPANG Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) has implemented a smarter waste management system in the municipality to reduce the occurrence of waste-related complaints.
The system has the addition of two road sweeper machines as well as 85 Armroll lorries equipped with a GPS tracking system and 14 cubic metre capacity Roll-On Roll-Off bins.
MPAJ signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) appointing KDEB Waste Management Sdn Bhd as the project management company to take over the urban cleaning and bulk waste collection within Ampang Jaya.
KDEBWM took over domestic waste collection operations as of March 1 last year, while cleaning work such as sweeping, grass cutting, drain cleaning and collection of garden waste has been under the company since Dec 1.
“The collection and monitoring of the operations are much more efficient now. Most complaints were settled within 24 hours.
“Last year, out of 1,178 complaints, 1,138 were resolved with the balance 40 in various stages of completion,” he said.
State Housing, Building Management and Urban Living Committee chairman Datuk Iskandar Abdul Samad said cleanliness remained an important issue among residents.
“We need to address this quickly and efficiently,” he said, adding that the introduction of road swee-pers would speed up the process.
Abdul Hamid signed on behalf of MPAJ while KDEB was represented by its general manager Ramli Mohd Tahir.
Also present was Selangor Local Government, New Village Development and Legalising of Factories Committee chairman Ean Yong Hian Wah.
