MOTORISTS heading to the heart George Town, Penang, were irked when they became stuck in a traffic snarl along the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway due to the state-level National Day parade rehearsals.
They expressed their anger over the lack of notification that several roads in the inner city would be closed.
Netizens took to social media to express their frustration over the jam that spanned almost two hours for some.
Several roads in George Town were closed between 7am and noon to enable the parade rehearsal.
The roads affected were Light Street, Penang Street, Bishop Street, King Street, Jalan Pengkalan Weld, Beach Street, Jalan Tun Syed Sheh Barakbah, Jalan Padang Kota Lama, Farquhar Street and Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling.
A state secretary office spokesman said the traffic and road closure announcements were usually handled by the police.
State traffic police could not be reached for comment.
