KUALA LUMPUR: The International Trade and Industry Ministry (Miti) is pioneering a programme in collaboration with Singapore Corp Enterprise (SCE) to enhance the skill set of its people in its continuous effort in human capital development.

Deputy Minister Datuk Ahmad Maslan said the eight-month programme, which would kick off this month, was the first of its kind for the Malaysian civil service and would involve 122 officers.

“The platform, called the Economic Policy Leaders programme, would enhance the professionalism and charisma of the officers.

“In Miti, we believe it is important to provide our officers varied learning experiences. In this context, we welcomed the opportunity to have our friends from across the causeway to share with us their experience. Our engagement with Temasek Foundation and SCE is an innovative programme designed to hone yet another set of skills and provide enriching learning experience for our officers,” he said after the signing of the memorandum of understanding between Miti deputy secretary-general Datuk Jayasiri Jayasena and SCE CEO Kong Wy Mun yesterday. Also present was Temasek Foundation CEO Benedict Cheong.

Ahmad Maslan said the programme would be held in Malaysia and would be followed by a learning visit to Iskandar, Johor and Singapore. The cost of about RM751,000 would be equally funded by Miti and Temasek Foundation, he said.

SCE works closely with Singapore’s 15 ministries and over 60 statutory boards to scope out and tailor possible solutions to match the needs of foreign governments, and help meet their development objectives.
