RESIDENTS of Taman Kimsar in Prai on Penang mainland, now have a quiet place to read or study after a small portion of their community hall was turned into a mini library.
The library was a joint project by the Taman Kimsar Residents Association and the Lions Club of Prai.
Residents association chairman A. Sree Vijayanayagam said the Lions Club spent nearly RM15,000 including buying 400 books, book shelves, chairs, tables and two units of air-conditioners.
“The library can be used as a reading centre for students to study at night.
“Our committee members will taketurns to monitor the place,” Sree said in hisspeech before Deputy Chief Minister II Dr P. Ramasamy opened the mini library recently.
Also present were the Lions Club chairman Beh Cheng Poh, project organising committee chairman Ooi Chao Syhuan and committee member Brian Ooi.
Sree said Dr Ramasamy, who is also Prai assemblyman, had agreed to sponsor six units of air-conditioners while the Lions Club would sponsor four units of computers.
Dr Ramasamy thanked the residentsassociation and the Lions Club for themeaningful project in his constituency.
He urged parents to encourage theirchildren to use the library, noting that if the response was good, more facilities might be added.
“I hope the library will attract the youths and retirees to make good use of it,” he said.
