GEORGE TOWN: Studies are now being carried out to merge the three local plans for Seberang Prai into one.
State Housing, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo said the Town and Country Planning Department (JPPD) was looking into the matter and would refer to the State Planning Committee (SPC).
“JPPD is studying it now. If we can do one plan for the whole of Seberang Prai instead of separate plans for north, central and south Seberang Prai, we hope to gazette it this year.”
He said the need for a single plan was due to important developments including projects that required them to be incorporated as one plan.
“They include the alignment of the Penang Transport Master Plan (PTMP) and the Batu Kawan township to name a few,” he told a press conference after handing out calenders to the public in Kuantan Road yesterday.
“We want it expedited but more importantly, we want it done properly.”
The local plan, once gazetted, serves as a guideline for future developments and layout of planning in Seberang Prai.
