BUYING property for investment requires one to find ways to generate an income.
Renting out the unit is what most would do to maximise the return on investment.
Another option is home sharing, where two or more unrelated people share a dwelling with each retaining a private space.
“The home sharing industry grew 165% from 2015 to 2016, based on statistics from AirDNA, which has the largest market share for home sharing in Malaysia.
“Property investors can opt for this to maximise their return on investment,” said Living Space managing director Ikhram Merican, acknowledging that the home sharing industry in Malaysia is quite new.
“Resident hosts must learn to compete rather than focus solely on the price as it may lead to loss of appeal over time which can affect their growth and the guest experience.”
The property advisor said based on statistics, 91% of travellers want to immerse themselves in a “local experience”.
So beyond cleanliness and amenities, resident hosts should focus on providing an experience that is truly Malaysian.
“Some hosts even cook local favourites such as nasi lemak to serve their guests.
“Additionally, they could provide guidebooks on the area and recommend places of interest to show Malaysian hospitality,” added Ikhram.
