PETALING JAYA: Shopping malls are preparing to “dress up” for the Hari Raya festive season, with some having planned way ahead.
Suria KLCC revealed that a 70-foot tall ketupat will be built at the KLCC Esplanade.
“Ketupat was chosen as the main structure because it is a must-have food during Hari Raya,” said Suria KLCC executive director and chief executive officer Andrew Brien.
He said the structure would be certified by the Malaysian Book of Records as the Tallest Ketupat Replica in Malaysia on June 20.
Throughout this fasting month, Brien is expecting food and beverage outlets in the mall “to trade in the usual Ramadan pattern”.
“We are a quieter during the day and have an influx for buka puasa,” he said.
Mid Valley Megamall senior manager of advertising and promotion Pang Sing Ing said the mall would create a traditional concept as the theme for its decorations this year.
“Our decoration will be set up by June 16,” she said, adding that the mall was now decorated with a famous video game series theme in conjunction with the school holidays.
“From June 16 to July 12, we will be organising various activities which are related to the theme that we have decided on,” she said.
For Atria Shopping Gallery, the mall will only be fully decorated on June 20.
“As a neighbourhood mall, we will have various activities for our customers who are mostly family-oriented,” said senior manager for leasing and marketing Catherine Chin.
The main highlight from the school holidays – ice gliding rink – will remain throughout the festive season as one of the mall’s attractions.
