RESIDENTS of Southern Park, Klang are frustrated over the clogged drains in their neighbourhood that lead to flash floods during downpours.
They said Klang Municipal Council (MPK) should supervise its cleaning contractors as they were inefficient.
The group is also unhappy with the presence of many foreigners in the neighbourhood.
A resident, Oh Meng Huat, 64, said, residents, especially the foreigners, were dumping rubbish everywhere.
He said a large group of foreigners living in the upper floors of shophouses had been spotted dumping rubbish along the back lanes.
“I live in Jalan Rengas and share a common backlane with the shophouses. The back lane is filthy and smelly. I have made numerous complaints to MPK but the filthy condition remains,” he said.
Another resident, U. Viswam, 67, from Lorong Rengas said the influx of foreigners in the area had resulted in the locals feeling unsafe to engage in outdoor activities.
He said the football field which used to be the ground of the famous Southern Park FC, had become a hang-out spot for foreigners.
“They also play football there every evening, forcing the locals to desert the field. They also throw rubbish around the field,” he said.
Resident S. Murugavel, who is also Shah Alam MIC division chief, said the foreigners sometimes had drinking sessions around the field and indulged in fights after they got drunk.
“They also dump liquor bottles and used polystyrene cups around the field. This has discouraged the locals from going to the field,” he said. — By ELAN PERUMAL
