Demolishment and redevelopment can only be done upon the agreement of all 138 unit owners
PETALING JAYA: The Minister of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) Zuraida Kamaruddin called out to the unidentified 27 unit owners of Highland Tower.
Out of the 138 owners of the Highland Tower units, 111 has agreed to demolish the towers. KPKT is still on the lookout for the rest of the 27 owners to get their agreement for the demolishment.
According to KPKT secretary-general Datuk Mohammad Mantek, the demolishment of the towers could only be done with the agreement from all the unit owners.
“We have assigned the Insolvency Department to collect information regarding these 27 unit owners, and we have set the deadline on July 16,” he said during the weekly press conference at KPKT, yesterday.
Regal Field Development Sdn Bhd has been identified as the developer of the Highland Tower project.
“They have come forward with redevelopment suggestions to KPKT, and there are chances for a joint venture between Regal Field and KPKT,” said Zuraida.
With regards to the housing loan issues, Zuraida said that KPKT and Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) will soon be announcing a more relaxed housing loan package for the B40 and M40 groups.
“We had a meeting with BNM, banks and Employee Provident Fund (EPF) and preliminary papers are underway. The papers will need to be finalised, and we would be able to come up with a more relaxed loan scheme that would aid house buyers,” she added.
Zuraida also emphasised that the local authorities nationwide should consist of 30% women according to the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), Beijing Declaration, and Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 2030.
During the press conference, The Green Ventures Sandalwood Plantation Bhd donated RM1mil while Adenland Group of Companies and Intergreen Metals Sdn Bhd donated RM100,000 each to Tabung Harapan.
