KUANTAN: Kompleks Teruntum, which was closed after a water tank burst on Sunday, has reopened.
However, shops on the side of the complex where the tank burst, as well as two entrances to the building, remained closed yesterday to facilitate clean-up work while awaiting the green light from the Fire and Rescue Department and Public Works Department.
Other shops in the building were open for business but there were only a few customers as there was no water supply or air-conditioning.
Kompleks Teruntum joint management board manager Mohd Zaid Harun said they hope to have temporary tanks in place soon so that water supply and air-conditioning can be restored.
“We hope to restore water supply and air-conditioning within the week, two weeks at the most,” he said after meeting Teruntum assemblyman Sim Chon Siang at complex yesterday.
“We have yet to find out what caused the tank to burst.
“It could be its age, but we don’t want to speculate until we find out more,” he said, adding that the tank was installed 13 years ago and is checked every morning.
“If there had been a crack in the tank, there would have been some water around it but there was none that day,” he said.
The complex has two water tanks, but after one tank burst, the second was emptied as a safety precaution.
